2020 is only 13 days away. The countdown has started to a new decade, and what a decade it’s shaping up to be! 

This past year has blessed me with many opportunities to travel internationally, experience different cultures and share the important work of growing courageous leaders who will be skilled in thriving through these turbulent, changing times. 

Whizzing through the streets of Phnom Penn on a tuk-tuk with a translator from SHE Investments, coaching entrepreneurial women starting their own businesses. Time with Brené Brown in San Antonio, becoming certified as a Dare to Lead TMFacilitator, and a week in Seoul sharing our Change Leadership Program with an HR Consultancy (with the help of a wonderful translator, Sasha). 2020 will also kick off with an exciting trip to Mexico City for the Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Masterclass.

As I reflect on 2019, I feel thankful for so many things in my life. 

The amazingly talented and generous community of coaches across Australia and New Zealand that I work with daily, all of whom are now dear friends; our clients who open their minds and hearts to experiencing our flavour of blended neuroscience/emotional intelligence Programs. The chance to author a new global EQ report, SEI LTC (Leading Through Change). Our partnerships both here in Australia and globally (Six Seconds; B1G1; Entrepreneurs Institute) ~ together we’re making a difference towards leaving the world a better place than we found it.  

Each year brings us all closer towards our goal of super-charging thriving, courageous leadership. There is much work to be done, and the need has never been greater. People are struggling to navigate the current phenomenal pace of change, and anxiety is at an all- time high. 

I see three main challenges ahead for leadership in the next decade:

  • To become even more courageous, not shying away from the difficult conversations that need to happen across a range of issues (such as sustainability and climate change)
  • To better understand/accept change, and become skilled at leading ourselves and others through the uncertainty and inherent risk/emotional exposure of change ~ it’s the new normal!   
  • To prepare our next generation of leaders well ~ as Simon Sinek says in his latest book, we’re looking for leaders who can play the Infinite Game where purpose trumps short-term profits.

My wholehearted thanks to everyone we’ve worked with in 2019. Together we’ve touched many lives and shaped extraordinary leaders. Lastly, I’d like to send a million hugs and all my love to my family for their love and support. As our family grows with sons- in -law and grandbabies (yes we have gorgeous little Harry, and two babies arriving early in 2020), we all treasure each and every day. 

Many of you know Cassie, our COO, who is also my eldest daughter! For four years now, it’s been a joy to have her working alongside me, bringing our vision to life. Thank you, Cassie! Thanks also to wonderful Tilly who quietly keeps us all on our toes!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and a safe, healthy, happy and peaceful 2020. I feel excited to see what the new year has in store!
